Proud moments
Gencity Inc. was born from Steven’s entrepreneurial journey, which began in 2012 under his own name. As his clientele expanded, he rebranded in 2018 to attract larger organizations, including Indigenous communities and national enterprises.
Today, Gencity Inc. is known for delivering results-driven communications, trusted advisory services, and culturally aware strategies that build bridges and strengthen brands.

Meet the Founder:
Steven McCoy
Steven McCoy is an Ojibwe from Ketegaunseebee (Garden River First Nation), a member of the Bear Clan and was given the name Mishkwanakwet (Red Cloud) from the Traditional Medicine Man, Harlan Downwind. Steven McCoy is the CEO and founder of Gencity Inc. which evolved from his own part-time consulting business he started under his own name in 2012.
Steven has over 12 years’ experience working with various First Nation entities and clients such as politicians, communities, non-profits, entrepreneurs, business owners, associations and corporations. He also has over nine years’ experience working in the marketing and communications industry, specifically with First Nation organizations, including Algoma University, the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA), Aboriginal Protective Housing Association (APHA) and Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS). As a consultant, Steven has worked with or is currently working with major clients such as the Robinson Huron Treaty Litigation Fund, Chiefs of Ontario, Sault College of Applied Arts & Technology, Z'Gamok Construction, Pic Mobert First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, and Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association, to name a few.
Mr. McCoy completed a bachelor’s degree with honours in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing at Algoma University. Steven also graduated with a Diploma from Sault College in Hospitality and Tourism Management. He also accomplished additional training in the finance sector having successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course along with other designations required to become a financial advisor.
Mr. McCoy is passionate about giving back to his community and is a motivational speaker to help inspire others by sharing his own story of overcoming adversities in life. In addition, Steven is passionate about supporting and promoting Indigenous people in business and actively encourages them through a trademarked platform he founded, entitled IndigenBiz, where he writes journalistic pieces about the industry. His efforts were showcased twice in SME Business, a popular national publication and twice nominated for "Indigenous Business of the Year" with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.
